It is with heavy hearts that we announce the sudden passing of our dear mom, nanny, sister and friend, Mary Catherine MacKenna, Williston House, Sydney, NS on December 15. Mom was born December 22, 1937 to the late Captain Charles and Isabelle MacLean, Ross Ferry, NS.
Predeceased by her parents and infant brother, mom leaves to mourn with treasured memories her three daughters (her girls) Barbara (Carl) Baillie and Shelley (William) MacLeod both of Sydney, Marilyn Dawn (Simon Jessome) MacKenna, Ross Ferry and their father David MacKenna. Nanny leaves behind her three grandchildren Leah Dawn (Nick), Evan (Meghan) and Duncan Baillie. Also surviving mom are her three brothers that she loved dearly Arnold (Port Hastings), Ralph (Dartmouth) and Winston (California).
In 1959 mom graduated as an RN from the Sydney City School of Nursing. She made lifelong friends while in training, including her dearest friend Janice Brown.
She was an adherent of Bethel Presbyterian Church. Her faith was an integral part of her life.
Mom had a wonderful childhood growing up in Ross Ferry, in a home full of love and laughter. She kept her sense of humour throughout her life and it was our joy to make her laugh. She passed on her love for the outdoors and swimming to us during summers spent in Ross Ferry and family gatherings at the cottage. She was our biggest admirer and champion, celebrating every accomplishment.
A celebration of her life will be announced in the summer.

Interment will take place in MacDonald Memorial Cemetery, Ross Ferry. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mary’s memory may be made to Loaves and Fishes, or a charity of your choice.
