Sydney
It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Marjorie Cameron (nee Boucher), 54, of Sydney, after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. Marjorie passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family on Tuesday, May 3, 2016. Marjorie was born on April 10, 1962, in Antigonish, Nova Scotia. She was the daughter of Marie Jeaneene (Fougere) Boucher, and the late William John Boucher.
She was raised in Havre Boucher (Cape Jack), graduating from Antigonish East High School in 1980, then going on to graduate from Nova Scotia Institute of Technology in 1982, as a Medical Laboratory Technologist. Following this, she went to work for the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, St Rita’s Hospital, and then the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. In 2009, she became Quality Specialist/Point of Care Coordinator for the Cape Breton District Health Authority. Marjorie is fondly remembered for her strong work ethic and professional dedication – traits that she has passed on to her children.
Marjorie is survived by soul mate and best friend, Gordon Cameron, with whom she shared nearly 34 years of marriage. She is also survived by her children, Christopher (Nicole) Cameron, Sydney; Melissa (Brian) Campbell, Sydney and Amanda Cameron, Sydney. She is also survived by her 4 grandchildren, Easton, Grace, Seth, and Ella. Marjorie was the “middle child” of nine children, a position she cherished, as part of a beautiful, close knit family. She fondly recalls having enough siblings “for a baseball team”. She is survived by her loving brothers and sisters, Charlie (Diane) Boucher, Calgary; Debbie (Gary) Brow; Havre Boucher, Anthony (Kathy) Boucher; Calgary, Ramona (Steve) MacAskill; Halifax, Brenda (Rick) Hanlon; Linwood, Patricia (Dale) DeCoste; Edmonton, Francine (Allan) MacQuarrie; Halifax, and Gregory (Sheryl) Boucher; Antigonish. She is also survived by her mother-in-law Adeline Cameron, and brother-in-law, Blaise (Liz) Cameron. She will also be missed by her 22 nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors, and coworkers.
Marjorie was predeceased by her father, William Boucher, and a brother in infancy, Leonard Joseph.
Marjorie was an avid gardener of the most beautiful flowers and fresh vegetables. Her children and grandchildren will forever know the love and comfort of Nanny’s garden, and countless recipes for delicious home cooked meals. She was also extremely talented in knitting and crocheting, making an abundance of handcrafted garments for loved ones. She had a passion for coin collecting and had an extensive collection. Even during her illness, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as a perfect daughter and sister.
A special thanks to Dr. Farokh Buhariwalla, her family physician, Dr. Ron MacCormick of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, Dr. Anne Frances D’Intino of the An Cala Palliative Care Unit, and all the warm and caring staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre and the An Cala Palliative Care Unit. We thank you all for the beautiful care you gave our mom and our family.
Visitation will take place at TW Curry Parkview Chapel on Thursday, May 5th, from 2-4 pm, and 7-9 pm. Funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Marguerite Bourgeoys Church, where she was a faithful parishioner, at 11 am on Friday, May 6th, Fr. Bill Burke officiating, with a reception to follow.
