She was the eldest daughter of Matilda and Charlie Herney (Grand Putus). Her parents were respected Mi’kmaq elders in the community with a strong sense of morality and they passed this strong sense of morality on to Lynda.
Lynda was a Residential school survivor. She was sent to residential school at a young age along with her younger sister (Theresa). It was through the residential school system that she learned to survive. The hardships she faced in her youth made her the strong person who would persevere anything that came her way. She made holidays the best for her children and grandchildren no matter what financial struggles she faced.
She was a good mother who was always there for her children. She was never selfish and always put the needs of her children first. She taught her children to be strong and independent. She taught them to work hard and to respect themselves and others. She encouraged her children to find their paths in life and loved them with all her heart. Once her children were grown, she gained an interest in jewelry making. She was very talented at making jewelry and passed her knowledge onto her daughter Lynn.
She met the love of her life (l’Lun Wells) at Indian day school when she was still a child. He sat behind her in class and dipped her pigtails into the inkwell. They have been married for 55 years.
She is predeceased by her mother Matilda Herney, father Charles Herney, brother Earl Herney, sister Theresa Herney, sister Rhodena Christmas, brother Michael Herney, Sister Bernadean Hereny, sister Hazel Herney, Neice Elissa Herney, and her son Lawrence Wells jr.
