It is with profound sadness that we, the family of the late John Sydney Gould, announce his sudden passing on Friday, August 21, 2015 at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sydney, NS on November 9th, 1944, he was the son of the late Mary Rose (Johnson) and Joseph Gould.
Sid was born and raised in Membertou but lived most of his life in Eskasoni. He was a member of the Eskasoni Holy Family Parish. In his early days Sid was a skilled carpenter and played hockey, horseshoes, and baseball. He was an avid Toronto Blue Jays, Montreal Canadiens, Sidney Crosby fan and WWE/WWF fan. Sid was a businessman with a huge heart. He always put his customers first. He was a band councilor from 1985 – 86. He enjoyed playing cards, the casino, vlts, bingo, billiards, bowling, karaoke, old westerns and country music. Sid had a great sense humour. He adored the company of family and friends.
He took great pride in his children and grandchildrens' accomplishments and enjoyed watching them in their sports and activities.
Sid is survived by his loving wife Gloria (Young) and his children, Sheila (Vernon) , Jackie (Eric) , Delores, John (Courtney), Mary Lou (Perry), Alphonse (Annie) Young, Charlotte Young, Isabel (Virick) Francis, Chuck (Lydia), Rhona (Bryan), Carolyn, Blaire (Tandy), and Jon Rhett (Priscilla) all of Eskasoni; his sisters: Janet (John) Takata of Toronto, Ont. Joanne Poulette, Sugar 'Madeline' (Walter) Poulette both of Eskasoni, NS, Susan Margaret (Peter) Paul, Mary Estelle Gould, Marie Bella Gould, June Francis, Meliza Gould all of Membertou, NS.
his brothers: John H. (Nancy) Paul, Adam Gould, Oscar Gould, all of Membertou, NS and Bertram (Kristen) Gould of Eskasoni, 41, grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren (special mention to grandson, Caleb);godchildren, RJ Gould, Brian Toney, Natasha Sylliboy, Rosie Johnson, Mary Ann Paul, Reggie Young, Annie Gould,his best friend Walter Poulette, his canine friend, Bruno
and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his first wife Margaret Rose Gould, his sister Frances Battiste, brothers Francis 'Rubby', Milton 'Bye Bye', James 'Jimmy' .4 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and godchild Laverne Gould.
Visitation will take place at the Gabriel Centre on Tuesday, August 25, 2015 starting after 7 pm. Funeral mass and burial will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at Holy Family Parish, Eskasoni N.S. 10:30 am with Father Angus MacDougall officiating.
