It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jean Valerie Lowrie on November 4th, 2024 our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend. Born in Moosejaw, Saskatchewan. She was 76.
Jean was known for her warm hospitality, giving spirit, incredible wit and had a knack for making people feel at ease. She was proud of her career in the RCMP and achieving her Masters in Community and Economic Development from CBU. She and her husband Ken ran the Gathering House B&B in Sydney, NS from 1984 right up until the present. They have hosted many guests, many of whom have grown into close friends. In more recent years, they enjoyed the presence of international students. Jean was also a member of many groups and clubs throughout the years, most recently the Book Club at CBR Library and the Sydney Rug Hookers. Her handiwork is proudly displayed throughout her home. She enjoyed cooking and traveling, on big and little adventures, including Grenada, South Africa, New York and around "The Loop" (South Bar, New Victoria, New Waterford and Glace Bay).
Jean will be dearly missed by her husband Ken Phillips, son Dean Lowrie, granddaughters Devon and Dara of Ontario, daughter Cherry (Steven) Cheetham of Nova Scotia, stepchildren Catherine Larsen and Ann Marie Cavers of Manitoba, her brother Robert (Linda) Prentice of Alberta. She was predeceased by her parents, Bruce and Gladys Prentice, sister Betty Kruse and daughter-in-law Deborah Lowrie. She had fond memories of growing up on the Prairies and a special place in her heart for her Aunt and Cousins on the Schurr Family Farm.
A special thank you to Rodney Sunil, Roy and Pauline Sampson, Delores Merill, Cathy and Brian Targett, Darrell and Deborah Furguson, Mayank Gandhi, Guneet Kaur Raina and the VON Nurses for all of their kindness and care shown to Jean and family. If desired, donations in Jean’s memory may be made to the MS Society, Diabetes Association or Heart and Stroke Foundation. There will be no service.
