It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Mrs. Helen T. MacEachern (nee Gallant) at the age of 90 on Monday, April 17, 2017, surrounded by family.
Born in Sydney on October 4, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Ellen (Pineau) Gallant.
Helen grew up in Sydney’s Northend, attending both Sacred Heart and Holy Angels High Schools. She trained at St. Joseph’s Hospital, Glace Bay, NS, graduating with her Nursing in 1947. Married to her late husband, Donald Francis MacEachern for 55 years, Helen is survived by children Bernie, (Norma), Ennismore, ON; Mary Ellen, Halifax; Michael (Joan), Westmount; Catherine (Jean Boudreau), Charlottetown, PE; Ronnie, Sydney; Joan, Charlottetown PE and also survived by brother Gerald ‘Bucky’ (Helen) Gallant. Left to mourn are Helen’s grandchildren Murray Hart, Ottawa; Gary Hart, Toronto and Mary Ellen Boudreau, Charlottetown, PE; surviving sisters-in-law, Anna Gallant, Sydney; Claire MacEachern, Halifax; Theresa MacEachern, Minneapolis; brother-in-law Larry Leahy, Idaho; lifetime family friend Linda MacDonald, Sydney and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband Donald, son Harvey Scott and a daughter in infancy; sisters and brothers, Alice Hoch, Gertrude Skinner, Isabelle Hoffeinz, Dorothy Gallant, Jessie Kubvsiski, Joan Leahy, James ‘Doc’ Gallant, Russell ‘Duke’ Gallant and Donnie Gallant.
As per Helen’s request, there will be no visitation, Funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Friday, April 21 at St. Theresa’s Church, Whitney Avenue with Fr. Dennis Lamey officiating. Reception to follow at T.W.Curry Parkview Chapel, Reception Room, Main Level.
