It is with great sorrow that we the family announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend Germaine Marie George. She passed away peacefully at home on April 8th, 2021 surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on January 13, 1951 in Sydney. She was the daughter of the late Ephrium and Theresa (Campbell) Sampson.
Germaine is survived by the love of her life, her husband and best friend, Brian George. Her daughters Tammy (Jeff), Tara (Michael), Tracy (Ryan), and son Brian (Melanie). Her proudest achievement in life was her family and in particular, her pride and joy, her grandchildren; Dawson, Abby, Ryder, Kynlee, Arianna, Alexander, Sophia and Brayden. While many will have fond memories of Germaine, she will always be remembered for her devotion and unwavering love for her family. Through her tough exterior shone a heart of gold, always putting her children and grandchildren first.
Germaine also leaves behind her sister Shirley (Greg) Sparling, brother John Sampson, Brother-in-law Lloyd (Susan) George, and Sister-in-law Raylene George. As well as many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers James and Kenneth Sampson, and brother-in-law Edward George.
Germaine was a devoted, hard-working and compassionate nurse for over 39 years. She graduated in 1972 from the New Waterford Hospital with her forever best friend Anne MacNeil. Germaine began her nursing career at the Sydney City Hospital and upon its closure, transitioned to orthopedics on 3A at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, where she was lovingly known as "Mama". Germaine continued to work after retirement in 2010 at the Well-Women's Clinic with Dr. Dorothy MacNeil. She loved her profession and always went above and beyond to give the best possible care to her patients.
Sincere thanks goes out to Dr. Saneea Abboud, Dr. Ron MacCormick, Dr. Meaghan Keating and Dr. Dianne MacLaughlan. Also, the nurses and staff of the Cape Breton Cancer Centre, and 3B at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. We would like to thank our circle of friends and family who provided support and comfort throughout Germaine's illness.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation. A private family funeral mass will be held on Tuesday April 13, 2021.
