The death of Father Alex occurred at Hospice Cape Breton, October 1, 2024. Father Alex was born in Broad Cove, Inverness Co., June 16, 1938. He was the son of Hugh L. and Margaret (MacLellan) MacLellan.
He attended St. F.X University and then attended Holy Heart Seminary, Halifax. He was ordained Priest on May 23, 1964. Father Alex served in several parishes in the Diocese of Antigonish and following retirement, he served in the Diocese of Victoria, B.C. Upon returning home, he lived at Holy Redeemer Parish, Sydney, for 2 years and then took up residence at Shipyard Apartments in Sydney.
Father Alex was predeceased by his parents, his sisters; Isabel (late Tony) Metz, Betty (Ray) MacDonald, nephew; James A. Campbell and niece; Margaret Veronica MacDonald.
He is survived by his sisters; Marcella (Ernest) MacDonald, Inverness, Mary (late Jack) Campbell, Port Hawkesbury, and many nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, as well as great grand nieces and nephews.
Funeral Mass for Father Alex will be held at St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Broad Cove, 2:00 pm on Tuesday, October 8, 2024. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until Mass time at 2:00 pm. The Most Reverend Wayne Kirkpatrick, Bishop of the Diocese of Antigonish will be the main celebrant.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Margaret of Scotland Church, Broad Cove in memory of Father Alex.
