Born in Sydney, he was the son of the late John and Margaret (Campbell) MacEachern.
He was a member St. Theresa's parish. He was a veteran of the Second World War, serving with the North Nova Scotia Highlanders in Holland, Belgium and Germany. He retired from the Department of Fisheries in 1982. He was an avid hunter, fisherman and sportsman, with memberships in the Sydney Commercial Bowling League, the Lingan Golf Club and the Sydney Curling Club. He often represented the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 12 at golf and curling tournaments.
Alex is survived by his daughter, Clare (Gordon) MacKillop; son, Bill (Maureen) and grandchildren, Theresa, Kate and Michelle MacKillop and Michael, Graham and Ellen MacEachern; sisters, Grace Milne, Cambridge, Ont., Dolores (Ken) Bruleigh, Sydney; brothers, Cam, Dartmouth, and York (Jenny), Glace Bay.
He was predeceased by his wife of 55 years, Eileen (DeCourcy) and sisters, Ann MacEachern, CND, and Margaret MacEachern, CND, brothers, Hugh and Joseph.
Visitation will be held at T.W. Curry Parkview Chapel on Wednesday, Sept. 29 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Theresa's Church, with Rev. Jim Oliver officiating. Interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery, Sydney Forks.
