It is with great sadness in our hearts that we announce that James Campbell “Little Jim” as he was affectionately called by some passed away on August 7, 2020 at Cape Breton Regional Hospital. Jim was born on October 27, 1935 to Jenny Campbell and was raised by Jenny and William Squires of Big Bras D’Or. Jim had a varied and interesting work history starting as a gunner with the Canadian Navy. He later worked as a merchant mariner working out of ports across North America. Eventually returning home to Cape Breton to raise his family and found work at the Sydney Steel Plant. He was the owner of Crown Taxi which he built up into the thriving business before retiring. Jim was an active member of the Navy Veterans Club and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #8. He was also a life long diehard Habs fan. Besides his parents, Jim is predeceased by his wife Theresa Rose (1986), sister Margaret MacLean and brother-in-law Leo King. He is survived and will be deeply missed by his family, children Edna (Kevin) Tobin, Marlene (Ian) Gardiner, Kelvin (Leslie) Campbell, James Jr. Campbell and Loretta (Shawn) Tremblett, grandchildren Ryan, Matthew, Kyle, Lauryn, Jaxon, Victoria, Hannah and Parker, siblings Sophie King, sisters-in-law Kay (Edward) Skinner, Helen (Earl) Drake and Ann (Arch) Osmond, brothers-in-law Allen MacLean, Bud (Mary) Pero, Wayne (Mary) Pero and Nelson Pero as well as numerous other relatives and many friends. A visitation will take place on Thursday, Aug. 20 from 6-9pm at Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home. Please call (902) 736-9700 to reserve a time. Funeral Service will be at 11:00am on Saturday, August 22nd at St James Presbyterian Church, Big Bras D’Or with Rev. Peter MacDonald officiating. Interment to follow in the church Cemetery.
