Charles King, 91, of Sydney Mines passed away peacefully on June 20, 2015 at Harborview Hospital.
Born on December 12, 1923 in Sydney Mines, he was a son of the Late Annie (Bragg) Riddle and Chesley King.
Charles was a veteran of the Second World War and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. He was a chauffeur for Canada Dry, retiring in 1989. He spent many years volunteering at Thrift Store in New Hamburg Ont.
Charlie is survived by his loving wife is 61 years Shirley (Cantwell) King; daughter Dianne (Fred) King; sons Daryl King and Don (Wendy) King, all of Toronto; grandchildren Julie, Brandon, Ryan, Carson, Julian and Jessica; great-grandchildren Maddie, Taylor and Masion as well as sisters Peg Fiefield, Sackville NS, Josephine Aubrey, Sydney, Margaret (Don) Young, Sydney Mines, Elizabeth Weaver, Dartmouth, Phyllis Hillier, Sydney Mines as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers Percy, Harry, Chesley, Ernie and two brothers in infancy.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 23 at 3 PM at the John J. Nugent Firemen's Center on 1 Elliott St. in Sydney Mines with reception to follow.
In lieu of flowers the family request memorial donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Alzheimer's Association or charity of choice. Funeral arrangements are under the care and direction of Fillmore & Whitman Funeral Home, 10 Clyde Ave., Sydney Mines.
