On Thursday morning, October 6th 2022, William E Diskin, of Somerset, MA, loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, was called to Heaven at the age of 85 surrounded by his loving family at HopeHealth Hospice Center in Providence, RI. He was the beloved husband of Adele (Strzepka) Diskin married for 62 years. Born in Fall River, he was the son of the late John and Grace (Chapelle) Diskin. He was also the brother of the late John Diskin.
Bill was a graduate of BMC Durfee class of 1955. His professional career was in banking, from the time he graduated high school until retiring in 2002. His successful career in banking allowed him to serve many small businesses in and around the Fall River area. Bill was well known and respected for his honest, genuine compassion to help people succeed and realize their business dreams. He held various positions at Fall River Trust Co. and Slade’s Ferry Bank where he retired as Vice President of Lending. Retirement did not last long, Bill’s loan knowledge and years of banking experience could not idle. South Eastern Economic Development Corp. (SEED Corp.) in Taunton became a new part-time passion, again helping small business owners and startup companies for another 7 years.
A longtime parishioner of St. Stanislaus Church, Bill actively volunteered and held committee positions. He was a former President of their Men’s Club, passionately served as Chairman of the Annual Polish Festival for 50 years. Bill and Adele were active members of the Krakowiak Dance Group for 25 years. He was a former MC for the Taunton Jaycee’s Pageants, a volunteer Fireman with the Town of Somerset and was a member of the Fall River Trust Company Softball League. In his spare time, Bill enjoyed golfing, skiing and camping with his family and friends. A member of Ocean Grove Sam’s and Big Blue camping groups.
Today he leaves behind his devoted wife Adele, and three daughters, Sharon McGillick her husband Steven of Somerset, Joyce Harney her husband Kevin of Fuquay Varina, NC and Eileen Pelletier and husband Philip of Westport; 6 grandchildren, Chad McGillick his wife Debra, Daniel McGillick his wife Deborah, Mitchell Patrick Harney, Victoria Nicole Harney, Danielle (Pelletier) Bohn her husband Zachary and Tyler Pelletier; 4 great-grandchildren, Axel, Lucas, Sariyah and Zahara as well as several nieces and nephews. They all adored their Papa.
We will always remember Bill as a compassionate man, full of strength and dignity. With beautiful blue eyes and a radiant smile, willing to always lend a hand to anyone. Whether you call him William, Bill, Mr. D., Mr. Bill, Dad, Papa, Pop…he touched your life in some capacity. It didn’t matter whether it was a brief encounter, a lifelong friend, or a member of the family, there was something about him, he was full of unconditional love. A true love for life itself, he embraced every moment and every person he encountered with the same genuine personality.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, October 14, 2022 at 8:30 AM from the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea, MA followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00AM in St. Stanislaus Church, 36 Rockland St, Fall River, MA. Relatives and friends are invited. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4:00 to 8:00PM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bill’s honor may be made to Butler Hospital Foundation, Philanthropy Building 2, 171 Service Ave, Suite 310, Warwick, RI 02886 for benefit of ‘Lippett 1’ in memory of William Diskin. Burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Fall River.
