Born in Fall River, Normand was the son of the late Elzear and Laurette (Marotte) Lapointe. He spent most of his life in Somerset, where he cherished the community and made lasting memories.
A proud veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Normand dedicated twelve years to Olin Chemical in Fall River before embarking on a new journey with his wife, purchasing Lapointe’s Market in Swansea in 1976 from his sister, Rita Duclos, and her husband, Henry. Together, they operated the family business for five years. He later worked at Princess House in the glass production department, Fairchild Fasteners, and concluded his career as a supervisor for Creative Engineering in Stoughton before retiring.
A passionate sailor from a young age, Normand enjoyed building boats with his brothers to sail in Mount Hope Bay, making trips out to Spar Island. In his later years, he became a member of the Spar Island Racing Association, where he cherished sailing outings with family and friends, especially his beloved wife, Carolyn, and in his later years with his nephew Ronald Duclos, on his sailboat, the Tara. He knew Mount Hope Bay like the back of his hand and always looked for an opportunity to race.
Normand was a true jack of all trades, known for his ingenuity and craftsmanship. He enjoyed woodworking, sewing, and had a deep appreciation for classic cars, having owned a '55 T-Bird and a Corvette. Above all, he treasured the moments spent with family, especially his grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of love and memories.
He is survived by his son, David F. Lapointe and his long term partner Tabatha Kelliher of Coconut Creek, FL; his daughter, Michelle M. Rodrigues and her husband Mario of Cumberland, RI; his grandchildren: Michael C. Rodrigues of Cumberland, RI, Kristen A. Rodrigues of Cumberland, RI, Michelle C. Lapointe of San Antonio, TX and Ashley G. Arambulo of Tomah, WI. He was the brother of the late Rita Duclos and her late husband Henry, the late Alcid Lapointe and his late wife Elaine, the late Raymond Lapointe and his wife Barbara Lapointe of Sequim, WA, Ronald Lapointe of Middletown, MD and his late wife Nancy Lapointe, Alfred Lapointe and his wife Judy of Centralia, WA and Paul Lapointe and his wife Sylvia of Jonesboro, GA; along with many nieces and nephews.
