Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Harold J. Eastwood, Sr. and Dorothy J. (Openshaw) Ramunno, she was a longtime resident of Assonet.
A graduate of Joseph Case High School, she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Education and English Literature from Southern Massachusetts University (UMASS Dartmouth) and a Master’s degree in Education from Leslie College. A devoted and passionate teacher, she taught 6th grade Language Arts and Religion for 30 years at the Taunton Catholic Middle School before her retirement in 2015. MJ enjoyed sitting and taking in her garden, antiquing, decorating and the company of her adopted shelter cat. She will be remembered for her strength through many trying times in her illness and for her positive attitude.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by one sister, Susan Beth Boutin and her husband Joseph of Fall River; one brother, Harold J. Eastwood, Jr. and his wife Diane of Swansea and several nieces and nephews. She was the sister of the late Heather Marie Eastwood and Thomas Brendan Eastwood.
Her visitation will be on Wednesday, July 19, 2023 from 8:30 – 9:30 AM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Road, Swansea followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Bernard’s Church, 30 South Main Street, Assonet. Relatives and friends are invited. Burial will be private. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Taunton Animal Shelter, 821 W. Water Street, Taunton, MA 02780 and/or the Faxon Animal Care and Adoption Center, 474 Durfee Street, Fall River, MA 02720.
