Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Manuel and Ida (Reynolds) Mello, she spent her youth in Fall River, lived in Bristol for over thirty years before moving to Whalers Cove in New Bedford.
A graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, Class of 1936, she attended the Thibideau Business School. She was the proud owner of Caron’s Jewelry in Bristol, which opened in 1956, which remains a family business.
Dot was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at the V.F.W. Post in Bristol. She enjoyed bowling and loved to dance especially ballroom dancing.
She is survived by three sons, Joseph Caron and his wife Diane Berube-Catanzaro of Barrington, John Caron and his wife Marissa Lombardi of Kennebunkport, ME and Jeffrey Caron and his fiancée Candace Bolduc of Fall River; one sister, Pauline Tavares of Swansea; seven grandchildren, James Volkma of MI, Olivia Caron of HI, Jack Caron of RI, Sofia Caron of ME, Christopher Caron of Dighton, Ryan Caron of MD and Emily Caron of Middletown and many nieces and nephews. She was the grandmother of the late Jodie Strickland.
Visitation will be held on Sunday, November 10, 2024 from 4:00 to 7:00PM in the Waring-Sullivan Home at Birchcrest, 189 Gardners Neck Rd., Swansea. Contributions in her honor may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452. Burial private.
