Richard "Dick" Bennett Irving

Richard Bennett Irving passed away on October 24th 2024 after a long and fulfilling life at the age of 92. Born in July 9th, 1932 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Dick lived a life dedicated to his family.

Dick attended Vancouver Technical Institute. He became an electrician who traveled Canada doing theatrical lighting. He did lighting for famous bands that came to Vancouver. This included the Beatles and many more. Lighting for the first televised Canucks game. Dick was a great singer and loved to jam with friends in Yuma Arizona, where he spent his winter months. After leaving the lighting industry Dick became an Iceman at the South Delta Recreation Center, becoming the manager with in the first year. Upon retirement in 1993, Dick was the manager of 5 recreation Facilities. If you ask his grandchildren, the best part of that job was riding the Zamboni. In 1954 while at the roller rink he met Cora. In 1957 she became his wife of 67 yrs.

He is survived by his loving wife Cora, daughter Janice Sherwood, daughter-in-law Theresa Schrieber, their grandchildren Donald Irving, John Irving, and Christa Mills, and 3 great-grandchildren.

Dick was preceded in death by son John Irving 21, grandson Andrew Mills 10, and great-grandson Hayden Irving 17 mon.

Dick was the kind of man that created life long friendships everywhere he went. From his band jam sessions in Arizona, to golf courses, and the ice rinks where he coached, played and refereed hockey to camping out at Horse Lake, there were so many friends that became family and his loss will be felt vastly.

There will be a Celebration of Life for Dick on Monday, November 18th at 10am. The Celebration will be held at First Memorial Fraser Heights Chapel, 14835 Fraser Hwy, Surrey BC. There will also be a live stream, which can be found at https://fweb.tv/159920
