It is with deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved Mayda Elizabeth Rennie (nee Broberg) of Surrey BC on July 4th, 2014 with her loved ones by her side, just shy of her 95th birthday. She was predeceased by her son Brian, her daughter Sharolyn, son-in-law Rick, and grandchildren Candice and Nathaniel. Mayda is survived by her husband, Clayton; her son Warren, daughter-in-law Mary and grandchildren Jessica, Stuart, and Corinna; daughter Patti Goodwin, grandchildren John, Brian, David and Shayna; and loving sister Vernice Stephenson, as well as many nieces and nephews.
Mayda was born on the Broberg family’s homestead in Spalding, SK on July 30, 1919. She completed her nursing in Saskatoon in 1944 and married Clayton Rennie in Spalding United Church on January 28, 1945. They subsequently moved to the West Coast, settling first in Victoria BC, where Warren and Brian were born. Mayda worked as a pediatric nurse at Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria. When the family moved to Vancouver, Mayda continued her nursing career at Saint Vincent Hospital, where Sharolyn and Patti were born. After three years in the Little Mountain area, the Rennie’s moved to their long-term home on East 7th Avenue in Vancouver, where Mayda kept a close watch on her lively family and most of the neighbours’ children as well. The family moved to their property in Surrey in 1974, and Mayda finished her nursing career at Surrey Memorial in 1984. She then had lots of time to pursue her love of travel and being with family as far away as Saskatchewan and Minnesota.
Her family and friends were the recipients of her generous gifts of knitwear, cake decorating, and other creative endeavours.
Mayda will be remembered for her kind-hearted, welcoming, smiling nature and her endless strength and energy, as well as her beautiful gardens.
The funeral service will be held at Northwood United Church, 8855 156th Street, Surrey at 3PM on Saturday, July 12th. Her memorial book can be viewed at www.victoryfuneralcentre.ca. She will be deeply missed and loved forever.
Arrangements under the direction of Victory Memorial Park Funeral Centre, Surrey, BC.
