Kenneth John Munro, born May 15, 1925 in Medicine Hat Alberta, died November 5, 2012 in Peace Arch Hospital. he will be sadly missed by his beloved wife of 63 years Leah, his children Cathy (Cyril), Barb (Don), & Ken ( Jolanda), his grandchildren Chris, Scott (Kristina), Katie (Bryan), Laura (Christopher ), Stacie (Leo), Tyler, Brittany & Michael and his cherished great grandchildren Scarlet, Gage, Jaxxon, Owen & soon to be baby Redles.
Papa, as he is lovingly called by his family, grew up around Brooks Alberta and joined the navy before his 18th birthday. A veteran of the WWII & Korean wars, he was a navy man who instilled his many fine qualities in his children.
He was the president of the Chief Petty Officer's Association for 5 years before retiring from the navy & continued to work for the department of national defence in Victoria until his retirement.
Ken & Leah spent most of their early years in the Victoria area where they raised their children. Ken loved all sports & spent many years coaching minor league soccer, hockey, football & baseball teams in the Victoria area. Even with
all his activities he still found time to indulge in his love of gardening. In 1985 they moved to Langley where Ken’s love for gardening blossomed. He found great delight in working in his garden and would spend hours cultivating plants from seeds & cuttings. We will always remember his beautiful gardens and hanging baskets. In 1990 Ken & Leah moved to their present home where he promptly built another greenhouse so he could continue to cultivate all those wonderful plants, and up until the last couple of years, that is exactly what he did.
Ken was a great man loved by many, a man of honour and integrity, someone who always thought of others before himself.
Rest in peace Papa, we will meet again someday.
The family wishes to thank the nurses of the GATU at the Peach Arch Hospital for their wonderful & loving care of all of us.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Canada would be appreciated .
Service to be held Friday November 16, 2:00 pm at Holy Trinity Church, 15115 Roper Avenue White Rock, BC.
