Rocky was born on March 1, 1955, in Spokane, WA, the son of Elmer Ruben Sayler and Berniece Mae Evanson Sayler. Rocky grew up and attended school in various cities, including Wallace, ID, Mullan, ID, and Missoula, MT. He completed his education at Trapper Creek Job Corp. As a young adult, Rocky spent many carefree days with his friends and his cousin Rick Brady traveling around the country. The stories he would share about his experiences, and the many characters he met, were priceless to his family.
Rocky eventually moved back to Butte, MT where on May Day, his wife spotted him while checking her mail. She knew immediately that he was the one she was meant to share life with. With the help of close family, they were introduced, and the feeling was mutual. Together, they raised 3 children, Sara, Joshua, and Kyle.
Rocky was a jack of all trades, holding many jobs, some that he loved, and some he didn’t. He did love working for the Montana Department of Transportation, and ultimately retired after 20 years of service.
In his free time, Rocky enjoyed playing guitar, listening to rock and roll, and spending time with family and friends. He was known for his unabashed sense of humor, intellect and breadth of knowledge, and his unconditional love of his family.
Rocky is survived by his wife of 37 years, Robin Ashley Sayler; children Sara (Adam) Sheehan of Helena, MT, Joshua (Ronnie) Sayler, of Boulder, MT, and Kyle (Erin) Sayler of Helena, MT; siblings Lonnie Sayler, Terry Sayler, Jana (Mark) Ashley, Stacey Ortega, Judy Ortega, and many wonderful grandchildren.
Rocky will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of life will be held on June 3, 2023, at the VFW in East Helena MT, starting at 1:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
