Joan Marie French

Joan Marie French (nee: Elliott) was born in Toronto, Canada on June 18th, 1933 and she passed away in Surprise, Arizona on July 25th, 2024.

Her mother Beatrice Elliott, and her father Jack Elliott, pre-deceased her many decades ago. She will rest beside them in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Toronto.

After losing her husband, Jack Todt French, less than 2 months ago, it was too much for her tired body to endure.

Joan was a devout Christian who believed strongly in being rewarded in heaven after her Earthly journey ends. So she is already enjoying. At 91 years old, she had a long and fulfilling life.

She had a travelling spirit in her younger days while teaching school, moving to many different cities and towns in Canada, including Toronto, Timmons, Sudbury, Hull and Ottawa.

When she married Jack, she found a kindred spirit who liked adventure too. So in their retirement they bought beautiful motorhomes over the years and would travel thousands of miles driving/exploring all the way from Arizona up to Washington State. Then travel back home again, on a completely different route, to Surprise, Arizona. They both loved motoring along in those big rigs on the open road to see nature's wonders together.

Joan leaves behind her two sons Richard and Robert Stevenson. And from those son's marriages became a mother-in-law to Franca (Richard) and Michelle (Robert). She became a proud grandmother to Jessica and Michael as well as Chantelle.

Through her marriage to Jack, a blended family meant that she added three step sons and their families; Jay French (Children: Kristin, spouse Justin, Stephen, spouse Elizabeth, Andrew) and Robert French: (Spouse: Callie) and Richard French: (Spouse: Pamela, Children: Amie, spouse Vince, Amanda).

Our family is heartbroken but take comfort in the fact that she now enjoys her ultimate reward.

We cannot credit the staff at Orchard Pointe in Surprise, Arizona with the proper words of gratitude for her daily care. Thank you to all staff. And a dedicated employee at Orchard Pointe is Tracy Bolton, who gave Joan special attention, above and beyond expectations. Thank you.

A funeral date has not yet been determined at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Toronto. A Celebration of Life will take place for her and her husband in October 2024. Location will be in Happy Trails RV Resort, Surprise, Arizona where they both had many friends and neighbors.
