He was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho to Walter and Geraldine Muhly. Eric spent his early school years in Great Falls, Montana and Calgary, Alberta before moving to Hillsboro, Oregon, graduating from Hillsboro High school in 1978. He joined the workforce for a few years before deciding to attend Portland State University, graduating with his degree in mechanical engineering in 1990. For most of his career, he worked at Intel and Techtronix before eventually moving to Phoenix, Arizona. He recently retired.
Eric was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed elk and deer hunting with his brother and nephews, but loved to fish. He was fortunate enough to have spent every summer, and the past 3 months of his life, at Camp Tuffit on Lake Mary Ronan in Montana. Eric was known to spend the morning hours taking a walk around his neighborhood, or at camp, mingling with friends, strangers, and ensuring that all canines were thoroughly petted and fed treats, before moving on to his next great adventure.
Eric was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his siblings Scott Muhly, Robin Carlson, and Angie Murch as well as nieces Lily, Ari, Katrina, and nephews Jake, Kris, and Will.
We will miss you immensely Eric. May you find peace, immense joy, and that elusive fish that got away as you are welcomed home. We love you.
Eric’s life affected many people, and we ask you to kindly contribute your pictures and memories in lieu of flowers to this memorial site. Any donations in Eric’s name can be given to Camp Tuffit in Proctor, Montana, the Audubon Society, or Montana Fish and Wildlife.
