I have decided that I would like this included in Daryl's memories. Tammie & I arrived back to my house Dec. 27, 2014 and went over to the place where Daryl had been living.  As we got out of the car Tammie saw a humming bird sitting in the top branch of the tree by the car.  I love humming birds so she got her tablet and took a picture.  The humming bird just sat there was no other humming bird around.  She took another picture and we went into the house and visited with Larisa.  We got Daryl's things and Tammie took some to the car.  The humming bird was still there.  When we came out of the house with the rest of his things it was gone. On Monday when we went to the funeral home to meet with Holly when I was telling her about the incident with the humming bird, she told us that that is one of the things that they do. They are there to connect your loved one that has passed away with you.
I know that it was Daryl connecting with me.

My fondest memories with my father were the times working on the farm. I recall the long tractor drives on the side of the road from a family friend's orchard. We spent many hours together between raising cattle and milking the cows. My father taught me many things that served me well when I was in the military and in life. I will always remember my father in his jump suits and rubber boots.

Long before I ever shared his last name Bishop Daryl Workman was my "kissy bishop".  It's been an honor to have that last name these past seven years in large part because of the legacy Daryl and HughLene Workman have built with their lives.  As Bryan and I move into/attend different wards and events and introduce ourselves without fail, someone will later ask us if we are related to Daryl & HughLene.  They will meaningfully share some poignant moment of time when their life was touched by these two special people.  At this time of mourning Grandpa's loss & celebrating his life, I'm so grateful for the sweet memories Bryan has of his grandfather, and the special heritage my children have received.

He was a veteran of WW II, served as a Bishop,great scoutmaster and would share anything and everything that he had with anyone who had a need.  He always had a sneaky twinkle in his eye and would instigate trouble.  His reply to any question was "just right".  He was a good grandpa to many many kids, whether his or not!  We'll miss him.

Dear HughLene and family,  I had to write a note to let you know how much Brad appreciated Daryl's friendship.  To me, you were always such a wonderful couple and I know  you will miss Daryl, but I know you are surrounded by family and friends to help you thru this process.  Prayers to all. Sister Workman, many of the memories go way back. Your family was an integral part of my family's lives. Between scouting and church to insurance, Brother Workman, you, and your family have helped us and been there. I have fond memories of Camp Geronimo, stake dances, and my mom and dad talking about Phoenix West Stake and the cherished times there. God bless you and your family and thanks again for sharing your lives with ours.

Dear Workman Family,
I was deeply saddened to hear of Mr. Workman passing away.  I have a lot of wonderful memories of him.  I remember how he would exchange that yummy peanut brittle for my mom's tamales at Christmas time, how he stepped in to play referee when as kids our playing turned into fighting, the help he provided to my family after my great-uncles passed away and most of all the animated conversations and debates we engaged in over our fence line!  He was such a good, caring, kind hearted individual and the best neighbor ever. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Dear HughLene and Family, Returning home is one of the best men I have ever known. Husband, father, and for my family, one of the best friends we could have. He was in the service of others his entire life. During this time of sorrow I am positive that the first words heard on the other side is, Daryl, welcome home, job well done.  We love the Workman Family and you will be in our prayers.

Dear Sister and family
Wish I could be there for the hugs and love of your family  They are strong children and will be there for you in ways.   I remember the many kindnesses you showed to my family when I moved to Arizona so many years ago. Daryl  certainly was a great father and leader for his children.   A wonderful husband to you.  Prayers your family can be comforted by all the wonderful memories you all have of him.

Dear Hughlene and family;
I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Daryl.  It is hard to lose a loved one, especially during the holiday season.  Cherish all of the memories that you have. We are sorry to hear of Daryl's passing I can remember when he use to come to our place to pick up money, for the Peanut Briltle how much fun we had to count it on the floor, every Friday night for the ward Building Fund.
