Christopher Paul Duthu, 27, passed away unexpectedly on December 27, 2024. He was born on August 8, 1997, attended Sahuaro Elementary School, Freedom Elementary School, and graduated from Youngker High School in 2015. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 2017, served aboard the USS Higgins, and was stationed at Kadena Air Base as an Operations Specialist at the time of his passing.
Chris had a creative mind, and as a child he enjoyed writing stories and making comics. He was an avid baseball fan, was a fan of the Arizona Diamondbacks, and was so excited when they made it to the World Series that he sent his parents to a game as an early Christmas present. He was also a Star Wars fan, enjoyed playing video games (especially Pokémon and Mass Effect), played as a rogue in Dungeons and Dragons, and enjoyed reading (finally gave in to his mother’s wishes and read all the Harry Potter books) and fishing.
He leaves behind his parents, Brian and Tammy Duthu, his sister Celena and her husband Donald Morrow of Regina, Saskatchewan, his grandparents, Judy and Ernie Sherman of Summerfield, FL, his uncle Joe Sherman and aunt Carrie Frobe of Auburn NY, and his aunt Sandra and uncle Robin Richardson of Cayuga NY, and his cousins Audric, Robyn, and Sam. He was predeceased by his grandparents Madeline and Paul Duthu.
Visitation will be held on Monday January 6 from 4pm-6pm, with a service to follow. For those choosing to attend, we are asking to show your Arizona Diamondback pride and wear a D’backs jersey or other apparel.
For those who may have served, we are asking to honor Chris’s wishes and not display military colors.
Interment will be at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, we are requesting that donations be made in Chris’s name to the suicide prevention charity of your choice.
