As a toddler Mary was hospitalized a lot due to Asthma. Growing up she was always a helping hand. She had always wanted a pet bird but was not allowed because her parents said no and her mother was ill with ALS. So she got crafty and made a bird cage out of pipe cleaner and was very good at it. As a teenager, Mary spent summers with little sisters Rebecca and Cathy with their uncle Pastor Thomas and Grandma Edie and would look forward to enjoying eating stuffed peppers. She would help Uncle Tom with his business by typing for him. She was very helpful and caring. She helped her parents with their fruit stand at the swap meets. She would walk her siblings home and around after church or to the nearby stores.
As an adult she never married, never dated or had kids, she devoted her life to taking care of her mother after she was diagnosed with ALS. Then after her passing she took care of her father until he passed. Then took care and helped out her brother John with finances and was the caregiver for her brother Richard. She did this up until she got sick and diagnosed with ALS 6 years ago.
She was a good daughter, sister and Aunt. Not many know this except for small few but she was pretty funny and comedic. She would help her siblings by watching her nieces and nephews while they worked from time to time, and to keep the time passing and humor the kids she would tell them funny scary stories about the old lady who lived on the mountain or that Freddie Krueger lived in their attic. She would make the vents open and close and come back with ketchup on her arms to make them think she got scratched by him. She would tell jokes all the time to her mom and dad to cheer them up. She liked David Letterman, Steve Martin and most of all Elvis Presley.
She will be deeply missed.
God Bless you Mary, you are no longer in pain and are with your parents and brother smiling and laughing.
