Mary Lucerne "Lucy" DeWeese passed into the arms of Jesus on November 4, 2013. Born April 22, 1926 in Tina, Missouri, Lucy was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. Graduating from Keytesville, Missouri High School in 1943, she went on to study stenography and play basketball at Chillicothe, Mo Business College, where she graduated with honors in 1944. After college, Lucy worked as a dental assistant until her marriage to Courtney DeWeese in 1946. While raising her children she worked a few years as a "Kelly girl" before leaving the job market to become a full time housewife, mother, and partner in business with her husband. Lucy enjoyed sewing, crafting, gardening, playing cards, violin, piano and organ, and sang and played piano at nursing homes and shelters throughout her life. Loving small children, she taught Bible school to many, and worked in the church nursery. Before moving with her husband from Missouri to Surprise, AZ in 1990, Lucy successfully operated a business delivering conversion vans to 26 states. A member of Grand Community Baptist Church, Lucy's greatest passion was singing in the choir, and listening to the music of gospel quartets. Throughout her life she sang with various Christian friends in small groups, always praising the Lord, and ministering to others.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, November 9th at Grand Community Baptist Church, 18350 N. Goldwater Ridge Dr., Surprise, Az. In lieu of flowers please make donation in Lucy's name to Hospice of Arizona, Del Webb Inpatient Unit, 19702 N. Routzahn Way, Sun City, AZ 85375
