Sun City West, AZ - Eleanor M. Roady (Eleanor M. Gombert – maiden name) passed away peacefully at home of natural causes on Thursday evening, April 26, 2012. She was just 33 days shy of her 92nd birthday.
Eleanor was married to Bob Roady and lived in Sun City West. Eleanor was born on May 29, 1920 in Cuyahoga Falls, OH, and had been living in the Sun City West area for more than 20 years. She had moved to SCW with her now deceased husband, Gene Schwartz, after residing in the Akron, OH area all of her life.
Eleanor graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1937 and attended Kent State University. She moved on to work for Firestone Tire & Rubber Company and ultimately as Office Manager for Tuchman and Canute Architects in West Akron. Prior to joining T&C, Eleanor applied and was accepted to the Federal Government Language Translation Program.
She lived in Madrid, Spain for a summer studying Spanish until the program was eventually disbanded. Eleanor was an artist and musician all of her life, and played violin for the Akron Symphony. She created wonderful oil, tempera and watercolor works, eventually focusing on designing and creating miniatures to exact scale.
In her spare time she became proficient in needlepoint and pedipoint. Eleanor had three other passions in her life. She enjoyed traveling, visiting Europe, South America, Scandinavia and the Middle East. The other two were combined: bowling and Bob Roady. She and Bob were a great team, and laughed and bowled for many years together.
Survivors include her husband, Robert T. Roady and his children, Patty, Susan, and Dick, and their children and grandchildren. Additionally surviving are Eleanor’s children, Christine Smith and her daughter, and Thomas W. Cleverdon and wife Chris Cleverdon and their children and grandchildren. Eleanor was preceded in death by her husbands, James W. Cleverdon and Gene Schwartz, as well as a grandson, Peter Smith, and her parents Carl and Neva Gombert of the Akron, OH area.
A Memorial Service will be held at Sunland Memorial Park and Mortuary in Sun City, AZ on, May 2, 2012 at 2:00 PM.
