He was born in Topeka, Kansas. After high school he joined the Navy and was proud to serve our country during the Korean War. Forty-four years ago he moved to Phoenix with his wife Sibyl and three daughters.
Dean retired from Empire Machinery Company in Chandler, Arizona where he was the Training Manager. After retiring, he and his wife moved to the cabin he built and loved in the Arizona high country. He served as Chairman of the Board of the Blue Ridge Fire District for ten years. He and his team built a fire department that makes the Blue Ridge area proud.
Dean was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Edna Dunlap and his brother Ken.
Dean is survived by Sibyl, his wife of 52 years, as well as three daughters, Jackie (John) Buck, Trabuco Canyon, CA, Kathie Dunlap, Phoenix, Julie (Rob) Callan, Gilbert, AZ and four grandchildren, Addison (fiancé Amy Maikis) Callan, Las Vegas, NV, Michael Callan, Tempe, AZ, Shelbie Buck, Honolulu, HI, Karsen Buck, Trabuco Canyon, CA. He is also survived by sisters Evelyn (Ron) Blatchley, Camache, IA, Jane Butt, Glendale, AZ, two nephews and four nieces.
A memorial service to celebrate Dean’s life will be held on Monday, July 29, 2013 at 10:00 am at Sunland Memorial Park, 15826 Del Webb Blvd., Sun City, AZ 85351.
