Jack was born at home in Dundalk, Maryland on August 25, 1933. He is preceded in death by his parents Andrew Jackson Dail Jr. and Mary Thomas Dail, and his sister Deborah Dail Smart.
Jack grew up in Dundalk. He attended schools there and played lacrosse for them. He raised homing pigeons and ran a snow-cone business. More importantly, Jack at age thirteen attained the Eagle Scout rank of the Boy Scouts of America and practiced the Boy Scout Law, Motto, and Slogan his entire life.
He graduated from Washington College in Chestertown, Maryland and joined the U.S. Navy, becoming a pilot on the U.S.S. Randolph. While in the Navy he met and married Shirley Katherine Marble of Memphis, Tennessee.
After the Navy, Jack obtained his Master of Education from Arizona State University and began his career in the public school system as an administrator. He held positions in the districts of Buckeye, Arizona, Stanfield, Arizona, and Poolesville, Maryland. From 1969 until 1991 he was Mr. Dail, Superintendent of Mohawk Valley School District in Roll, Arizona, where he had his life enriched by many students, teachers, and community members.
Andrew Jackson Dail III is fondly remembered and greatly missed by his daughters and sons in law, Liz Bauer (Jason), Mary Holsinger (Erik), Trine Hultstrand (Michael), his grandchildren, Kaily Bauer, Tom Anderson, Zackary Wood, Wesley Wood, Jane Wood, Max Hultstrand, his sister Jane Duffy, his nieces and nephews, his church friends, his golfing buddies, his classic car hobbyists, and all the people he met on his life’s journey.
