Marjorie Lois (Vincent) Ellender, 91, beloved wife and mother of five, passed on Sunday, November 13, 2022. She was born October 20, 1931 and raised in Lake Arthur, Louisiana to Nicomel and Eloise (Benoit) Vincent. She graduated valedictorian from Lake Arthur High School in 1950 and performed locally in a singing trio. She also graduated from Lake Charles Business College.
She resided in Sulphur since 1950 and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic
Church. The family always identified how someone knew our mother by the endearing name
they called her. If it was Punkie or Aunt Punkie, they were family or childhood friends. If they
called her Mrs. Ellender, they probably knew her as the long-time secretary at WT Henning
Elementary School in the 60s and 70s. And if Marge, they were good friends from her golfing
days.
Marjorie is survived by her husband of 71 years, Henry D Ellender, her loving children, Kenneth
Ellender (Karen), Donald Ellender (Melinda), Richard Ellender (Elaine), Christine Brannon
(Duke), and Susan Dorrill (Robert); her grandchildren Stash Ellender, Derrick Ellender (Bethany),
Landon Ellender (Ruth), Lindsay Ernst (Joel), Rebecca Fleisher (Ethan), Lizzie Brannon, Jack
Dorrill, Cade Dorrill, and nine great grandchildren. As the last surviving Vincent sibling, this
matriarch was very close to her nieces, nephews, and great nieces. Her family will always be
grateful for the love and support given to her as Aunt Punkie.
Besides her parents, Marjorie was preceded in death by her grandson, Chad Dorrill, her sisters,
Pearlise Etie (Sonny), Laurise Beck (Ebbie), Thelma Fontenot (Pete), Anna May Ellender, Joyce
Gilbreath (Claude), and brothers, Leroy Vincent (Peggy), and Norbert Paul Vincent (Pat).
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Our Lady of Prompt Succor Catholic Church in Sulphur, Louisiana on Thursday, November 17, 2022 at 10:00 am. Father Eddie Richard will officiate. Visitation will be at Hixson Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home on Wednesday, November 16, 2022 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm, with a Rosary at 6:00 pm. Visitation will resume at the funeral home on Thursday, from 8:00 am until the procession to the church. Burial will follow at Mimosa Pines South in Carlyss, Louisiana.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Marge’s caregivers, Joyce Logue, Cassie Clark, Lisa Anderson, Patsy McFarlain, and the others who provided care over the years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations to be made the Chad Dorrill Memorial Scholarship Fund, 147 Wentworth Dr, Winston Salem NC 27107-6169.
