Joey was a good friend with a big heart.  I always thought he would be a great inspirational speaker or reformation preacher.  He had a way with words and could make anyone feel comfortable.  Joey expressed a desire to get sober and do the right thing for himself and his family many times.  He was serious about things relating to God and I believe he always expected to show this side of himself someday.  I remember Joey as a good friend and I am grateful to say he was a part of my life.  I wish his family the best as they carry on with out him here.  He is missed.

I'm really sorry to hear of Joey's passing. He and I were friends when I worked at Layne and Wayne's in Sulphur. What really set him apart from others was when he was your friend he would help you know matter what. I was a bouncer and was breaking up a fight one night, when a guy was about to sucker punch me from behind. Out of nowhere here come Joey and punches the guy about to hit me. You never know that punch could have killed me, but he was there to help me and I will always love him for that. He was great human being and he was my friend. I wish I could have been there for him in our later years like he was for me. Rest easy my brother, I will always remember you for the person and friend you were. My sincere condolences to the family for this being so late.  I hope his sons read this later on and know that their dad was good man.

I met Joey from a photo I took of him at a rodeo in Louisiana at the Longhorn we became friends and he came to Texas a couple of times and did some rodeos with my youngest son who was first learning to ride. He was very outgoing and kind person always willing to help when he could. My prayers go out to his family and friends.

I am truly heartbroken to hear about JoJo.  My thoughts and prayers are with the family.  

JoJo and I spent a lot of time together growing up. Our families are close and we were only a few months apart in age and were together at Maplewood. I have many great memories of JoJo.
This is the JoJo that I remember...  Our whole 5th grade class was at a table eating lunch in the cafeteria. I was really shy, but also really excited about the weekend that I was going to spend at JoJo's family's camp in Toledo Bend, so I told a friend. A girl overheard and said,"No, you're not!"(Hmm, jealous maybe?) I guess she didn't believe me since he and I didn't really talk at school. She asks him in front of everyone and he says it's true. (THANK GOD, how embarrassing would that have been?) At the camp, we ride with my dad to visit his friends. I had the new cassette single of Achy Breaky Heart. JoJo was all excited, so we listened to it OVER and OVER again. (This song always reminds me of JoJo)  While I was too shy to sing out loud, he belted it out, and I remember thinking,"Wow, it doesn't bother him a bit!"  JoJo tells a man about the HUGE bass he caught using the same hook that was attached to the brim of his hat.  I'm 'Miss Gullible', so I'm soaking it all in.  Back in the truck, JoJo laughs as he tells me that it was all a lie. The hook wasn't real, nor was the fish.Ha! Then JoJo asks my dad if he can take me for a ride in his boat.  WOO-HOO, we're riding in the boat with NO adults!  It's a blast until we come in to dock and my dad is standing there with a camera. He yells,"Smile big! This is for your wedding album!" TOTAL MORTIFICATION! (Thanks,Dad) JoJo just laughs. What I remember about JoJo was that he was a really nice guy who didn't mind admitting that he spent time outside of school with a shy, nerdy-birdy. He knew how to have fun and make others smile. I know memories of him will make us all smile. I think that's what he would have wanted. Rest in Peace, my friend.

Jo Jo and my son Jeff were cousins and were each other’s first best friends.  So many moments I keep seeing them together.

Still cant believe your really gone.. You are my dawg forever and you will be greatly missed nigga... Everytime austin was locked up or something if i need anything you were always there & it didnt matter if you couldnt do it your self, you found somebody who could help me... If my babies needed anything you helped me get it.. You had such a big heart and you didnt deserve any of this... We will meet again though so until then just watch over me austin and the babies... Tell my mawmaws and pawpaw jimmy i said hey and i love them.. LOL I remember you passing our house when you would drive threw the park and ayden would start flipping out "mommy pawpaws here pawpaw here mommy come see pawpaw her" lol and no matter how much i told him you was not his pawpaw & i tried to get him to say joey b he always called you pawpaw.. Fly high  😣

I am shattered as I look through photo album after photo album of memories holding pictures of the last seventeen years of my life.  Me and Joey started dating the end of 2001 before I graduated highschool and married October 22, 2004.    Even though we had divorced end of 2012 we tried to pick up the pieces several times. We were best friends. I've lost my best friend   Joey had a huge heart.. he was a hard worker.. he was my heart and the love of my life.  he was suffering from addiction but wanted to be so many things. I don't know if there's been very many days we haven't spoken in the last 17 years so this is going to be really hard for both me and our son. RIP joejoe I love you always n for ever. Love u your Alleycat


You will never be forgotten and always missed, I am so greatful to have met you and for all the good times we had, wish we would of had more. Thank you for everything you did for me and all the laughs we had, you have a special place in my heart that will live forever. You will be missed always and forever love you Joey B.

Please accept my deepest condolences, I am very sorry to hear of the loss of your loved one. "JoJo" sounded like he was a wonderful man and no doubt will be missed by many. May the family take comfort from what the Bible states, that one day many, like he will have the opportunity to live again. May the hope in Gods promises sustain and comfort you during this difficult time.  "And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

You wake after a night of crying, a day of loss, and you have one moment…one beautiful, solitary moment when everything is right in the world.  Because THAT is the moment before the moment when reality crashes into you like a semi truck in the wrong lane speeding at you in a nightmare.

And you are suddenly awake and without air.

It is close to impossible to breathe because you remember.  And of all things you know in the world at that moment – you don’t want to remember.

How they say that everyone enters your life for a reason? I wholeheartedly believe that to be true. I have met some of the most amazing people who will have a lasting impact on my life. Each person has contributed to who I am in some way, shape, or form, and for that I am grateful. There are certain people, though -- the ones who have a very special place in your heart. The ones you will never forget and can't thank God enough for crossing your paths.
It is true that there is much sadness here today, but all of these journeys that took Joey away from here and back home again, will live on in all of you, enriching, guiding and blessing your lives. This is what we will remember. It isn’t goodbye , it’s just a simple see you later! I love you Joey.
