She was born September 29, 1932 (The year James Chadwick discovered the neutron) in Carlyss, Louisiana to Vernon Michael Granger, Sr. and Minnie Ruth Ravia Granger and was a descendant of Cyprien Duhon, Jacob Ryan, and Pierre Vincent. Except for her time in college and a year in Olympia, WA where her husband Behrend Evans Drost, also of Sulphur, was serving time in the U.S. Army, she lived in Sulphur all of her life.
Nadine was a 1951 graduate of Sulphur High School and also earned a BS from Louisiana College, a MEd and an EdS from McNeese State University. She was certified in instrumentation by Sowela Technical Community College and was a Notary Public. She was a teacher for 25 years, teaching at Frasch Elementary School, FK White Junior High School, Maplewood Junior High School, and Sulphur High School. She taught math, physical education, physical science, and biology.
She was an active member of First Baptist Church of Sulphur and was co-teacher of the Ruth Bible Study Class. She taught youth in the past and had been a member of many committees at her church. Her favorite pastimes were Bible study and genealogy research.
With her husband of 58 years, Behrend, she co-owned Bicycles Etcetera. Nadine and Behrend travelled to Nova Scotia to do research on the Duhon family and wrote and published the family history, DUON: From Mathieu to Me, DUHON, D'EON, DeYOUNG, DION. She and Behrend visited all fifty states, Mexico, Israel, Egypt, and most of Canada. Her favorite food was peanut butter sandwiches and chocolate milk.
Survivors left to contemplate her memory are her children, Senetra Ruth Drost Moses and husband, Scott, Rahn Lanier Drost and wife Linda, and Dr. Joni Boncille Drost and companion, Dr. Jay Comeaux; her grandchildren, Kade Michelle Kelley and husband Chris, Addison Casey Duplechain and fiance', Chance Draper, Sofia Nima-Tziis Garcia, Brandi Morgan LeJeune and husband, Logan, Blake Matthew Drost and wife, Hannah, and Brooke Magen Drost and fiance', Rob LaCroix; two great-granddaughters, Kadence Christine Kelley and Zoey Morgan LeJeune; her sisters-in-law, Sue Granger, Delories Raggio Shorten, and Rosemary Hebert; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Allen and Ruth Drost; special friends, Joshua Thomas Wheat and Kaitlynn Elizabeth Wheat; and multiple nieces and nephews. Waiting for her in heaven are her husband; her parents; and her brother, Vernon Michael Granger, Jr; and special friends, Jessica Laine Wheat and Charlotte Kay Wheat.
Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, October 6, in Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home. The Rev. Michael Linton will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines South Cemetery in Carlyss. Visitation is from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 8:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday in the funeral home.
