William “Trey” Crayton Nelson, III, loving and devoted, son, brother and friend to many passed away too soon on Saturday, October 28, 2023. Trey was born in Houston, Texas on February 9, 1977 to William “Crayton” Nelson Jr. and Toni Cooke Nelson.
While attending Dulles High School, Trey was the starting quarterback, and led his football team from 2nd place to state in the 4A division. The game was played in the Astrodome. It was a very exciting time for all of us, as we were very proud of Trey and his accomplishments.
Trey received a scholarship to play football at Chadron State College in Nebraska. After playing for a semester at Chadron, Trey decided he liked Texas much better. He then attended Texas Tech University, where he became a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity-Epsilon Nu Chapter, following in his father‘s footsteps.
Trey was employed overseas throughout the world such as Russia, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Tampico, and Santo Domingo. He always managed to combine his love of golf and play in those countries as well as others. He was a world traveler, and establish great friends worldwide. When Trey came back to Texas, he often played golf with his Mom at Sugar Creek Country Club and his best friend Jean.
His travels abroad brought so much wisdom to his friends at home. His intelligence, well read and learned perspective was a gift to everyone he knew. Those that really knew Trey appreciated the fact that he was a true gentleman. Trey endeared himself to many families and respected those second families as much as he did his own; and those second families will never forget his commitment to them or his unwavering kindness. They all mourn together with the Nelson family in these hard times as do so many other friends and family.
Trey was loved and adored by so many. Trey was always the life of the party wherever he went. You knew you would either be laughing with Trey or getting in trouble with Trey or getting Trey out of trouble. He was a ton of fun and always had a smile on his face. His infectious laugh and sense of humor will be missed by all, especially his loving and giving heart.
Those left to cherish Trey’s memory are his mother, Toni Cooke Nelson, her significant other, Mike Peery, his father, William “Crayton” Nelson, Jr. and his wife, Yuying, sister Tricia Nelson Oliver, and her husband, Gale, daughter, Elena Sophia Nelson Hernandez, and her mother, Karem Manzanero Hernandez, Aunts and uncles Alana and Sherman Glass, Diane Nelson Kaigler and Floyd, niece Parker Ryan Oliver, nephew, Kyle Chandler Oliver, cousins, Ashley Johnson Poole and Sean, cousins William Cooke Glass and Karen and Andrew Allan Glass and Feng.
