Mary Margaret Hill Sloan, died Saturday, July 28, 2012, in her home in Sugar Land, Texas, at the age of 77. Mary Margaret was born on August 10, 1934, in Eldorado, Kansas, to Donald N. Hill and Cleo Marie Hill. In 1955, Mary Margaret married her high school sweetheart, James Franklin Sloan whom she had known from six years of age. Mary Margaret’s calling was to work in the home raising her five children while James traveled in the oil industry with Gilbarco and the Kreiter Gear Company. Following his death on August 2, 1977, Mary Margaret returned to the work force as a Senior Secretary with Shell Oil Company for 17 years. She was an active member of St. John Vianney Catholic Church in Houston for over 40 years. Passionate about babies, Mary Margaret volunteered at Memorial City Hermann Hospital for five years in the newborn nursery following her retirement, while lovingly sewing many blankets for the hospital in addition to those for grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James; and sister, Jean Hill Montgomery. Mary Margaret is survived by her five children, Richard, Mark, Alan, Donna, and Janice; sister, Joan Hill Allen of Muskogee, OK; thirteen grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday, August 1, 2012, at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land (Williams Trace Exit), with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, August 2, 2012, at St. Laurence Catholic Church, 3100 Sweetwater Blvd., Sugar Land. The family graveside service will follow at Memorial Oaks Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org, or to Easter Seals of Houston at www.eastersealshouston.org.
