Jim Henry "DaeDae" Martin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and skilled electrician, peacefully passed away on June 7, 2024, at the age of 69. He was born on December 9, 1954, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, to the proud parents Slater Nelson Martin and Marjorie Faye Martin.
Our beloved Daedae, touched our hearts in countless ways, and left an indelible mark on each one of us.
Daedae was a man of passion, and his love for life was evident in the hobbies he cherished. Golf was more than a game to him; it was a canvas upon which he painted memories with his family and friends. The green fairways and the comradery of the golf course were his sanctuary. He reveled in the thrill of casting his line into the water; waiting patiently for the tug of a fish; for Daedae it was about connecting with nature and finding solace in its’ quietude.
Basketball was a Legacy in the Martin household, his dad Slater graduated and played at University of Texas. In 1982, he was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame, playing point guard winning 5 NBA championships for Minneapolis Lakes and St. Louis Hawks. One of dad-dae’s favorite saying was “March Madness Baby”.
But beyond these passions, DaeDae treasured his family above all else. His sons, Brian, and Allan, were the pride of his life. He watched them growup playing little league baseball, golf and basketball, guided them, and shared countless fatherly moments. His wife Becky “MaeMae”, stood by his side through thick and thin, their love unwavering. Your laughter, your dreams, and your achievements brought him immeasurable joy.
He adored his grandson Charles Henry, who inherited Daedae’s wit- the ability to turn any situation into a punchline. Their laughter echoed through the halls, creating memories that will forever warm our hearts. DaeDae was transparent and honest, never one to sugarcoat the truth. He didn’t mince words; he spoke from the heart. His love for a cold Dr. Pepper and Pina Colada with a splash of vodka was legendary. It was if those drinks held the essence of his spirit- refreshing, bold, and unapologetically authentic.
Daedae was more than a brother, he was a confidant, and a partner in mischief. His brother Dugie, Mother Faye and Father Slater- we remember them all. They were the threads that wove the fabric of his life, and their memories will forever be intertwined with his. As we bid farewell to our dearest Daedae, let us celebrate the legacy he leaves behind. Let us honor the man who lived life fully, laughed heartily, and loved fiercely. May his spirit continue to guide us, reminding us to be honest, to cherish family, and to rejoice in life’s simple pleasures.
Jim Henry is preceded in death by his parents, Slater Nelson Martin and Marjorie Faye Martin, his beloved son Brian Randall Martin, and his brother Slater Dugan Martin. He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories cherished by his devoted wife of 42 years, Becky Martin, his son Allan Slater Martin, daughter-in-law Stephanie Martin, and his cherished grandchild Charles Henry Martin.
Jim Henry’s passing leaves a void in the lives of all who knew him, but his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of those he loved. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Houston Humane Society in honor of his love for dogs Nesha, Pepper, Boo, Coco and Chinchilla. A visitation will begin at 11am on Saturday, June 22nd at The Settegast-Kopf Co@Sugar Creek and a memorial service to celebrate Jim's life will be held at 12 noon with a reception to follow.
Rest in peace, dearest Daedae. Your memory will forever dance in our hearts and your laughter will echo through eternity.
