Jerry Ray Rodgers, 67, of Houston, TX, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2019 and went home to be with the Lord. Jerry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sherrill Jean Rodgers, son, Dr. Nathan Joseph Rodgers of Minneapolis, MN and his wife Melanie and grandsons Gabriel Rodgers and Christian Rodgers, several nephews and a host of loving extended family and friends. Jerry was born in Channelview, TX, and preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Shilling Rodgers, Pauline Boykin Rodgers, brothers James Lee Rodgers and Joseph Sydney Rodgers. Jerry had a fulfilling 20 year career as a journeyman electrician in the IBEW Local 716 followed by 26 years at Lockheed-Martin Space Operations in the Hardware Engineering Department supporting NASA/JSC. He was an active member and deacon of Mission Bend Baptist Church where he took joy in serving many roles over the past 30 years. He was a loving, compassionate born-again Christian who devoted himself to family, friends and his faith by serving God. He often said that he simply wanted his life to be a living example of the love of Jesus Christ.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 6, 2019 from 4:00pm– 8:00PM, and funeral services on Friday, June 7, 2019 at 10:00AM at The Settegast-Kopf Co. @ Sugar Creek, 15015 Southwest Freeway, Sugar Land, TX. A graveside service will follow at Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery located at12800 Westheimer Rd., Houston, Texas. Pastor H. Lynn Hitt of Mission Bend Baptist Church in Houston will officiate the service.
