Michael was born and raised on a farm in County Kerry, Ireland. At the age of 16, Michael went to England to work. From there, he went to the United States to seek his fortune, his pot of gold, and the love of his life. In 1975 he married his wife of 47 years, Sybil Avery Flynn. He was a proud member of the Teamsters Union and the Knights of Columbus. He became the proprietor/owner of The Suffern Hotel and invested in real estate.
Michael balanced a strong work ethic and prioritized family. He was strong, generous, compassionate, and selfless. For a tough man, Michael exemplified compassion through his daily acts of kindness towards others. He truly believed in helping those who were down on their luck.
Michael enjoyed entertaining family and friends at his lake home in the Poconos, where all were treated like family. He enjoyed his home near his son in Florida, where he lived out his passion for fishing. His greatest source of pride was his children and grandchildren.
He was the proud father of his son and daughter, Michael Rutledge Flynn (Lisa Marie) and Sybil Nora Flynn Jeffs (Justin). Michael adored his grandchildren Avery, Kieran, Mikey, and Mason. He is survived in Ireland by his brother Brendan and his sisters Margaret, Mary, Nora, and Sheila Connolly (Michael). He is predeceased by his parents, Michael and Nora, his dear brother Patsy, and his brother-in-law Vincent. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Charles and his nieces and nephews: Catherine, Michelle, Jimmy, Vincent, Domenick, Anthony, Franny, Patrick, and Jody.
