John Raymond Quiñones, Sr. formerly of Spring Valley passed away on July 19, 2023 in his home at the Chelsea at Greenburgh, White Plains, NY. Born on September 25, 1940, in Ciales, PR he was the son of the late Edelmira (Camacho) and Juan Quiñones. He was 82 years old.
He married Gloria Marrero on March 31, 1962 in Riverside Church and his beloved “Loli” predeceased him on March 17, 2004. He is survived by his children and their spouses: Debbie Quiñones-Migliaccio and husband, Robert of Tarrytown; Alfredo Quiñones and wife, Michelle of Chester; and John Quiñones, Jr. and wife, Maranda of Riverview. He is also survived by his grandchildren Victoria Migliaccio, Krista, Nicole, Antonio and Josephine Quiñones.
As a young man he worked as a professional photographer for Joe Cartelli, which is how he met the love of his life, Gloria. He then worked as a long-shoreman at ABC Trucking and is a member of Local 807. In 2006, he retired from Kipp Stawski Management Group where he was a Maintenance Engineer for 1212 6th Avenue and a member of Local 94-94A.
In the 1970’s he served as President of Club Manati and managed the Zodiacs softball team that won the championship in 1972. His interests included watching the Yankees play ball, movies, music, solitaire, reading the newspaper every day and doing the crossword puzzle. In addition, he loved returning to his beloved Puerto Rico where he had many relatives and childhood friends.
John was an avid storyteller, recounting his life experiences to his children and grandchildren. It was something he truly enjoyed. His life was something you would see on the silver screen. But with every story there was always a lesson. A lesson to enjoy life and learn from the mistakes he made so we wouldn’t make them ourselves. With every recount, there was laughter, light and music involved.
His family will always miss and remember him with love and kindness. The legacy, work ethic and culture he leaves behind will remain with them forever.
