John was a loving husband and father. He was a dedicated family man who spent decades working tirelessly to provide for his children in every way possible. Married for 38 years to his best friend and favorite chef, John was a wonderful dinner date who loved to laugh with, and occasionally at, his wife. The best (and loudest) coach any of his kids could have wished for, he often went straight from his midnight shift to yell from the sidelines at their games.
John was a Lieutenant with the Suffern Police Department, where he served the community for 40 years. Representing the Suffern PBA as president for several terms, John “diplomatically” resolved many issues for the men and women that he served alongside. He was a member of the Vincent Crotty Memorial Foundation Board of Directors, coached DARE hockey, and volunteered throughout his community for decades.
John is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Mallon; beloved children Nicole Andrea Mallon-Smith (William Smith), Courtney Paige Mallon, and John Joseph Mallon, III; precious grandson Jack Mallon Smith, and mother Joan Mallon. He is also survived by his siblings Steven Mallon, Scot Mallon, and Jacqueline Mallon; his nephews John Kelly, Andrew Kelly, and Christian McCall; and his niece Danielle McCall. John was predeceased by his dear father John Joseph Mallon, Sr.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 22, 2021, from 3-8 p.m. at Wanamaker and Carlough Funeral Home, 177 Route 59 in Suffern. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., on Tuesday, February 23rd at Sacred Heart Church in Suffern. In lieu of flowers, the family of John Joseph Mallon, Jr. asks that donations be sent to the American Diabetes Association or the Vincent Crotty Memorial Foundation.
