Jeremy Emanuel Honey, a lifelong resident of Suffern, NY passed away on September 7, 2024. He was 77 years old. Jeremy was born on June 2, 1947 in Suffern NY to the late Aaron Winfield Honey and Evelyn Leindorf. He served proudly in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. He was also stationed at Fort Belvoir, VA, Coventry RI, West Point Military Academy in NY, Fort Meade, MD, Walter Reed Hospital in Washington, DC and Bamberg, Germany where he and his family lived for 3 years.
Before his retirement, Jeremy worked for many years at the Montrose Veterans Hospital in personnel Management as well as other departments.
Jeremy volunteered his entire life. As a young adult, he assisted his Mom and Sis. Miriam Thomas at Good Samaritan Hospital and during the war he volunteered at several orphanages; In the 1980's he served his community as an EMT, instructor of EMT along with numerous American Red Cross and First Aid courses through and for the Ramapo Valley Ambulance Corps. and the County of Rockland; he established DMAT- a disaster medical team for Rockland County in conjunction with the Federal Government which ultimately became part of Homeland Security. He established several veterans' agencies in Rockland where they had not yet been represented including Disabled American Veterans (DAV), where he served as commander for more than 20 years and Purple Heart. Jeremy was an active member of the Veterans Coordinating Council where he served as secretary; the Village Hillburn Senior Citizens; he volunteered for People to People; he was Santa at numerous malls and the Village of Suffern Christmas Parade. Jeremy travelled to St. Lucia to assist in creating a disaster plan and volunteered in any way he was able.
Mr. Honey was formally recognized as "Federal Employee of the year" by President Ronald Reagan in 1984 for his accomplishments and for his exemplary work with the Department of Veteran Affairs. In 2019 he was inducted into the New York State Senate Veterans Hall of Fame by Senator David Carlucci.
Jeremy Honey is survived by his wife of 52 years, Alice (Gorton) Honey, his daughter & son in-law Evelyn Louise & Fernando Serrano, a son Jeremy Aaron Honey. He has 3 grandchildren :Krystal Sabine Ortiz, Aaron Gabriel Honey, and Casey Devon Honey.
He was predeceased by his parents.
