Carmelo Joseph Viccica, a resident of Suffern, NY, passed away on December 2, 2023. He was 90 years old. Carmelo was born on December 12, 1932, in New York City, NY to the late Paul and Marianna (Bentivegnia) Viccica. He served in the United States Army from 1953-1955 and was honorably discharged as a corporal. He worked for many years as a mechanic and was a service manager for Cadillac dealerships in Yonkers, NY before his retirement.
Carmine’s family was the center of his life. A devoted husband to Helen, together they moved to Suffern, NY from the Bronx sixty years ago to begin their life together. Their independent natures, strengthen as a couple, created a loving and welcoming place to raise a family. All who visited found a warm, supportive home, filled with laughter and love. And here was always good food (read: love) for all.
Carmine, known to his friends as Chick, was an honest, kind, patient, hardworking, and modest man. He had a wonderfully quiet sense of humor - often disguised and occasionally betrayed by a small smile and chuckle. He spoke Italian and, to the wonder of many, German, which he picked up during his time in the Army. He was an active member of The Sons of Italy in America - Linguanti Lodge 2212 and the Korean War Veterans Association of Rockland County -Eagle Chapter. Chick could fix any car, working many long hours to provide his family every opportunity to succeed. His honesty and respect toward others was evident by all who interacted with Chick. Through his actions he set an example to his children, grandchildren, and extended family which will be his greatest legacy.
Carmine Viccica is survived by his loving wife Helen Viccica (Siniscalchi) of 67 years, his beloved children, son Paul C. Viccica, wife Helen F. Sides and daughter, Anita M. Toss, husband Joseph H. Toss, and adored grandchildren Anna L. Jensen (née Viccica) and Mae L. Viccica of Salem, MA; and Michael J. Toss, of Suffern, NY. He is predeceased by his brother, Joseph Viccica.
