Born on March 20, 1931, in Medford, MA, to William and Priscilla (Gobron) Farrar, Dick was an only child who went on to live a rich and fulfilling life defined by loyalty to his family, friends, and community.
Dick graduated from Boston College’s Carroll School of Management. Following his service to the country as a U.S. Marine, Dick built a successful, 40-year career as a District Sales Manager at Ford Motor Company, where his passion for the brand never wavered – Ford vehicles were the only cars he ever drove.
Dick raised his family on Willis Road in Sudbury, MA, where he remained for over six decades to stay close to his children and grandchildren. Dick lived for his family and friends; he was a trusted confidante, always ready to offer support, advice, or a positive outlook when needed. His stories brought just the right touch of levity to any conversation. Throughout his life, Dick had a deep love for dogs, finding joy and companionship in his family’s pets.
Dick is survived by his beloved children, Julie Chapman and her husband Brett, Leslie Phillips and her husband Doug, and Steven Farrar; his cherished grandchildren, Justin and Cameron Chapman and Matthew and Kristen Phillips; and his many dear friends. He was predeceased by his wife and the love of his life, Constance “Connie” Farrar, who he was married to for 53 years before she passed in 2016.
After a serious injury, Dick spent the last 13 months of his life at The Commons in Lincoln, where he developed close bonds with the dedicated staff, whom he considered a second family.
Dick passed away surrounded by family, who will carry on his legacy – his love for life, infectious personality, radiant smile, and unwavering loyalty to family, friends, and community. He will be profoundly missed and forever remembered.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that you honor Dick’s memory by donating to one of his favorite causes, The Jimmy Fund.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
