David Gordon Berry Sr, of Sudbury passed away peacefully surrounded by love at New Horizons in Marlboro on December 30, 2023. David was born on November 30, 1936 and raised in Boston, the son of the late Ralph Edward Berry Sr. and Emma Leona (Patrinos) Berry.
After graduating from Roslindale High School in 1954, he joined the United States Marine Corp. Following his service David obtained his undergraduate degree from Boston University on the GI Bill. He then began a 36 year-long successful career as a technical engineer and instructor for Ford Motor Company. He is now reunited with his beloved wife of 60 years, Elinore (Currie) Berry who was granted eternal peace on December 31, 2018.
David is survived by his dearest children; daughter, Elizabeth (Berry) O’Connor and her husband Jim, of Sudbury, MA, and son David Berry Jr. and his wife Tracy. His adored grandchildren; Samantha (Berry) Sexton and her husband Mike, Jimmy O’Connor and Caelyn O’Connor, along with his granddogs Seamus, Blue, and Farley. He also leaves behind his siblings; Bruce Berry and his wife Janet, Emma (Berry) Dunn, Wayne Berry and his wife Helen, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends. He is reunited with his eldest brother Ralph E. Berry Jr.
David lived his life with purpose and gave his time and dedication to many organizations. He was a proud member of the Marine Corps League. He spent many years leading the Toys for Tots fundraising efforts in the Sudbury area. He dedicated his time traveling as a volunteer of the Leathernecks Honors Society, providing military honors to deceased veterans at funeral services. He was presented with the GUNG-HO Community Service Award at the Massachusetts State House in 2010. He was a dedicated member of the Freemason Prospect Lodge in Westwood, MA for 60 years, serving as Master in 2012. David served the town of Sudbury as a member of the Board of Appeals and Assessors office, and member of the Long Range Land Use and Senior Residents Tax Relief Council.
David’s other passions included travel, history, golf, shooting trap with his trap team, maintaining his golf course lawn, lunch dates, and companionship. His family extends their heartfelt gratitude to New Horizons and Faith & Family Hospice for their care and dedication to Dave’s health, happiness, and comfort. He will be remembered for his generous heart, always lending a hand, his steadfast love for his family and friends, his baby blues, his laughter & tall tales, his open door, and his appreciation that the sweet parts of life are the simple ones: As he said on Christmas Day, “I’m happy…just be happy everyday.”
Visiting hours will be held on Thursday, January 4, 2024 from 4-7pm at Duckett Funeral Home of J.S. Waterman & Sons Home of Memorial Tribute, 656 Boston Post Road, Sudbury, MA. A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Friday, January 5th at 10:00 AM followed by interment at Wadsworth Cemetery, 74 Concord Road, Sudbury, MA.
