Born in Pittsburgh, the son of the late Henry D. Bushnell and Helen (Martin), he was raised and educated in New Jersey. Daniel was a labor relations specialist with Exxon and Texaco for many years prior to his retirement. He was a member of The Country Club in Brookline and the Longwood Cricket Club in Chestnut Hill. He played competitive tennis into his mid-90s. He was the No. 1 85 singles player in New England in 1985 and a national 90s’ doubles titlist in 2000. Also, he was twice a member of a US team that competed against European players in the 85-and-over competition in Austria. Another of his athletic passions was Harvard football. He had 50-yard line seats at Harvard Stadium from the late ‘60s. to 2008.
He was predeceased by his wife, Isabelle (Marckwald) Bushnell. He is survived by his son, Davis Bushnell of Boxborough, grandchildren, Patricia and her husband Brian O’Malley of Worcester, Isabelle and her husband Fred Quarles of Roslindale, Lynnsie Peterson of Sandy Hook, CT, Heather and her husband Todd Acchione of Maynard, great grandchildren, Brendon, Collin, and Amanda O’Malley, Kenya and Isabelle Quarles, Jessica and Caroline Peterson, and Elena Acchione. He was also predeceased by a sister, Caroline Harris. And a brother, Francis.
A memorial service will be held on May 7 at 11 a.m. at the First Church in Chestnut Hill, 26 Suffolk Road, Newton, MA. Interment will be private in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord.
