Anthony (Tony) Scafidi, 81, of Northborough, MA died March 13’th at Beaumont Skilled Nursing Facility in Northborough, with his loving family surrounding him, after a long period of declining health since suffering a stroke 14 years ago.
Tony was the 14’th of 18 children born to Salvatore and Jennie (Camuti) Scafidi, both from Sicily, Italy, and he grew up in Waltham. He was the husband of Sandra Collura Scafidi for 56 years. They started their married life in Waltham, where Sandra was also born and raised. They then moved to Sudbury with their four sons, where they resided for 32 years, before moving to their residence in Northborough.
For over 40 years, Tony spent his entire professional career in the electronics industry. Valued as an expert in his business, many prominent companies (all in Massachusetts) used him in management positions. Some of the prominent companies were Raytheon, DeMambro Electronics, Vantage Components, Diplomat Electronics, and his last position was as division manager at Bell Microproducts in Woburn. Tony proudly served with the U.S. Marine Corps for 3 years.
In 1956, Tony and his Waltham Prep League team of 16 and 17-year-olds traveled from Waltham to Pennsylvania where the young men captured the National Title. Tony was named the MVP of the series.
He was a passionate sports fan, especially the New England Patriots and the Boston Red Sox. As the father of four sons, Tony was actively involved in coaching football and baseball at all levels and served on the board of directors for both Sudbury Pop Warner football and Sudbury Little League and served as president of Sudbury Little League for many years, Tony also worked at the Lincoln-Sudbury football games as a line official. Surprisingly, Tony was a certified baseball umpire, working little league games, middle school games, and high school baseball games. Tony, with a reputation for being thrown out of several games his sons were involved in, knew what it was like to be on both sides of the fence.
Tony was the father of Anthony (Tony) Scafidi (Laurie Desmond) of Litchfield, NH, Edward (Ted) Scafidi (Kim Porcello) of Roslindale, Andrew (Andy) Scafidi (Julie Buxton) of Concord, and Matthew (Matt) Scafidi (Alicia Radl) of Westwood. He was the beloved Papa of Lexie, Sophie, Jake, Francesca, Maddie, Nico, Cole, Ryan, Liliana, Iyla, and Maci; brother of Jeannette Scafidi of Waltham and Bernard Scafidi (Pat Jasset) of Westminster; brother-in-law of Robert Collura of Florida, Michael Collura (Deborah Durgin) of North Andover, and Linda Collura of Waltham.
Along with his parents, many siblings predeceased him: Demi Marmonti, Connie Ferro, Josephine Collura, Salvatore, James, Carlo, Ernest, Al, Richard, Robert, Raymond, Leonard, baby Alfred, Phillip and Marie Scafidi. Tony also leaves behind many special nieces and nephews.
