On Tuesday, February 6, 2018 at 10:45 in the morning, John Henry DuBois, Sr. passed away after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s at the age of 90 with his loving wife by his side. A resident of Palm City, Florida, John will be missed by his loving wife of 67 years, Gloria, and his children, Dolly (Tom), John (Donna), Linda, Gloria (Keith), Vince, and Cherie. John will also be fondly remembered by his his twelve grandchildren: Jeannie, Tiffany, Gloria, Dennis, Thomas, Kurt, Krystle, James, Victoria, Megan, Brandon, and Breana as well as his seventeen great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents Johnson DuBois and Missouri Carter DuBois and his seven siblings: Fred, Doris, Verley, Agnes, Dale, Brooks, and James. He is the last surviving sibling of his generation.
He was born on October 27, 1927, in Coconut Grove, Florida. He married Gloria Newbold on August 5, 1950, at his parents’ home in Coral Gables, Florida. He started his own stucco business in Miami and moved it to Stuart with him. He taught his sons and many of their friends his trade and was like a father to them. John worked as a volunteer on an ambulance in the 70s which is indicative of his love of taking care of people. He was a father to many, not just his biological children. There was always room at the table for more in the DuBois home.
A viewing will be held at Aycock Funeral Home, 505 South Federal Highway in Stuart, Florida, on Sunday, February 11, 2018, from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. A celebration of life will be held after the viewing at 11:30 a.m. immediately followed by a lunch reception at the Frances Langford Dockside Pavilion at Indian Riverside Park, 1707 NE Indian River Drive, Jensen Beach.
