Fred George Meier, 96, passed away on May 15, 2023, in Hobe Sound, FL. He was born in Flushing, NY, on February 26, 1927, son of the late Frederick George Meier Sr. and Katherine (Oelhaf) Meier. He was predeceased by his beloved wife of 61 years, Maryann Meier, who passed in 2014.
Fred attended Flushing (NY) Primary School and Brooklyn Tech High School before joining the US Navy during World War II as a Electronic Technician's Mate 3rd Class. He was a proud member of the military association and served his country with honor.
After completing his service, Fred went on to earn a Degree in Engineering and an MBA from Stevens Institute of Technology of Hoboken,NJ. He moved his family to Newtown, CT to work for Republic Foil, where he was Rapidly promoted to positions of Sales Manager, Plant Manager, and Marketing Manager. He then took a position with ACCO Industries where he ran two different divisions. He always wanted to be in his own business and decided to leave the corporate world and bought his own business, where he started Hastler Tel Co.
He and his wife Maryann were active members of the Stuart Corinthian Yacht Club, where he held several board member positions and later became Commodore.
Fred was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Christopher's Catholic Church in Hobe Sound, FL. He enjoyed playing tennis, boating, photography, gardening and making investments. He and Maryann traveled the world and were members of a Country Club in CT and FL. Time with his family was always his priority. He was known by his family as "Mr. Fix It", as well as being a great listener and advisor.
Fred is survived by his daughters, Nancy Meier of Hobe Sound and Lauren (Scott) Curtiss of Clifton Park, NY; two grandsons, Gregory and Michael Curtiss; four great grandchildren, Mia, Mason, Adelyn and Emma; his brother and sister in law Carl and Nancy Meier of Ft. Myers; his brother in law and wife Carl and Carol Steinmetz of Mooresville, NC; several nieces and nephews.
A Mass will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at 10am in St. Christopher's Catholic Church, 12001 SE Federal Highway, Hobe Sound, FL, with burial following in Riverside Memorial Gardens, Tequesta, FL, with Navy Honors. A reception will follow at the Aycock Funeral Home - Young and Prill Chapel, 6801 SE Federal Highway, Stuart, FL.
