Doug graduated from South Hall High School in Gainesville, GA. He was a star athlete, playing various sports such as football, basketball, and tennis. After a few semesters at Young Harris College in Georgia he went on to serve in the US Army where he received a Bronze Star Medal for meritorious achievement in ground operations against hostile forces in the Republic of Vietnam from July 1969-May 1970.
Doug was a very artistic man who enjoyed using his creativity and imagination. These talents were evident in both his personal and professional accomplishments. He was passionate about food and cooking and had a great desire to learn how dishes were created. He also enjoyed the outdoors and was an avid fisherman and golfer. He was instrumental in helping form and run one of the men’s groups at his favorite golf club in Jupiter where he was well liked and had many a great day there. More than likely if you couldn't find Doug he was out fishing, on the golf course, or at the 19th hole.
Doug was one of four children and survived by his brothers Larry Doss (Jennifer) of Tequesta, FL, Rives Doss (Stevie) of Gainesville, GA, Kirk Doss (Lena) of Greer, SC. His children Jason Doss (Erika) of Hobe Sound, FL, Taylor Bailey (Chris) of Wilmington, North Carolina, Evan Doss (Julie) of St. Petersburg, FL. and his five grandchildren Emerson, Adelaide, Oren, Lowell, and Harlan.
Doug loved life and lived it to the fullest; he would want you to do the same. His request was to have his ashes scattered offshore in the Atlantic near the Jupiter Inlet. Any remaining ashes will be scattered in North Georgia where he grew up. Two of his favorite places. In lieu of flowers, perhaps a small donation to the Humane Society of the Treasure Coast because Doug loved his furry friends.
