Calvin Terry

Calvin was born and raised in Grayson, Kentucky. There he met the love of his life, Izetta Mae Hicks. They were married on June 29, 1946. They enjoyed 66 years together until her death in 2013. They had three children, Suzette Howard, Dwight Calvin Terry and Timothy Lynn Terry, 7 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.

Calvin was a World War II combat veteran. Shortly after his military service God called him into the Ministry of the Southern Baptist Faith pastoring in Kentucky, Ohio and Florida. He obtained his Phd in Theology. His life was dedicated to serving the Lord.

Calvin was a multitalented man. He was a ventriloquist and had a dummy named Scotty that he used to minister the word of God to children. He was an accomplished musician, played the mandolin and harmonica as well as sang. He loved both gospel and blue-grass music. When he retired, he took up oil painting and was quite the artist with over 200 paintings.

In 1969 the Governor of Kentucky, Louie B. Nunn, appointed Calvin a Kentucky Colonel. In his later years he was known to all as “The Colonel”

Calvin’s remains will be taken to the South Florida National Cemetery in Lake Worth for a Military Veterans Honor Ceremony to commensurate his service during World War II. It will just be a small gathering of family and close friends.
