Myrna S. McQuade, age 89, went home to her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on September 24, at Karen Ann Quinlan Home for Hospice, Fredon, NJ Myrna was born and raised in Jamaica, Queens, NY with her parents, brother, and grandparents. She graduated from Jamaica High School in 1952; member of the swim/water ballet team; earned Epler medal of excellence in Fine Arts. She continued to use her gift of creativity throughout life through thoughtful homemade cards, writing and as an elementary school teacher. She graduated from SUNY New Paltz with a Bachelor of Science that focused on early education in 1956 and was a member of the Theta Phi Sorority. While in college she was introduced to Bernie McQuade and would soon after graduation get married to him in 1958. Bernie and Myrna eventually settled down in Stony Point and became long-time residents (60+ Yrs), enjoying raising their family and remembering the fun they had together within the community. Early on the neighborhood backyard holiday parties were a great time for developing great relationships with their neighbors that lasted a lifetime. Myrna was a North Rockland district elementary teacher in Farley, Tomkins Cove, and Stony Point elementary schools for over 30 years as she cared for the well being of each child coming through her classroom door. She enjoyed being an active member of the Stony Point Presbyterian Church and choir for over 45 years, praising God through song. She also was an active member of the Four Nightly club and a member of the Stony Point Teachers Association. For many summers, Myrna camped with her family during the summers, traveling through all 50 states and Canadian provinces. The family enjoyed learning about God’s creation and the many historical events in America. Later in life she and her husband spent their summers in the township of Thurman, part of the Adirondack Park. They enjoyed the beautiful forest, animal life and local neighbors.
Myrna loved her sons Bruce and Scott, Husband and extended family. She especially enjoyed spending time with her nine grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A viewing and celebration service will be held at Michael J. Higgins Funeral Home at 73 North Liberty Drive, Stony Point, NY on Thursday, September 28th from 3PM-7PM followed by an internment on Friday 1PM at Flushing cemetery, Queens, NY.
