Joseph Michael Moran died on 7 March after a long illness. Joe was born in the Bronx, NY in September of 1939 to Michael Moran and Julia (nee Kelly) of County Mayo, Ireland. Joe was a graduate of the 1957 class of Cardinal Hayes High School. Joe was the beloved husband of his high school sweetheart, Mary Eileen (nee Henchy). Loving father to sons Joseph, Michael (Kathleen), and Daniel (Carrie). Caring grandfather to Erin, Caitlin, Joe, Sean, Brian, Nora, Danny, and Lucy. He was predeceased by his parents, sister Mary, brothers William, Eugene, and James and Eileen’s mother, Nora, who he loved dearly. Joe’s early jobs included working in his father’s grocery, for the bank of J.P. Morgan and Co. and for his favorite uncle, Sam, serving in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1959 to 1965. Joe worked for Ma Bell from 1961 until his retirement in 2001. Joe and Eileen moved to Stony Point, NY in 1966 and became life-long residents. Joe was a fan of all sports but especially loved rooting for the Yankees, Jets, and for his favorite baseball player, Willie Mays of the NY Giants. Joe loved to travel with his family, making many trips to Ireland, Walt Disney World, the Poconos, and most of all, Cape Cod. He was an active parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo and later Immaculate Conception Church. Joe loved to watch his sons and grandchildren participate in athletics and coached his sons in Stony Point Little League.
Family will receive guest on Wednesday, March 11th from 2-4pm & 7-9pm at Michael J Higgins Funeral Home; 73 North Liberty Dr. Stony Point, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, March 12th at 9:30am at St. Peter's Church in Haverstraw, NY. Interment to follow at St. Peter Cemetery.
